Holiday Unit, Hanukkah

Below are links to the instructions, vocabulary lists  and sample scripts for Hebrew Through Movement Holiday Unit: Hanukkah. Additionally, there are flashcards of the vocabulary words found in this holiday unit for students who are ready for visual cues, instead of just verbal ones; these will generally be used in later years of study with Hebrew Through Movement, not the first or second one.

Teachers, both novice and experienced, will find of interest the video of Hanukkah being taught. As with all the videos offered on this site, it is offered neither as an exemplar, nor as the only way to teach the lesson.  Rather, it is an example of a real teacher, teaching real students.

Newly added to this page is a video of the vocabulary introduced in the Hanukkah unit, with pronunciation and translation. This video was posted to help parents hear and better understand the language that their children are bringing home! Feel free to share the link with them. There is also a video with other helpful information for the teacher.

Happy teaching!

Sample hanukkah scriptS using the htm worksheet

The 2021-2022 AND 2022-2023 Communities of Practice each used the scriptwriting worksheet to outline a Hanukkah lesson. The 2021 version introduces candle lighting and the 2022 version focuses on the words for candle, hanukkiyah, shamash and "light" (the verb). Click "yes," you want to make a copy.
