Holiday Unit, Shabbat
Below are links to the instructions, vocabulary lists and sample scripts for Hebrew Through Movement Holiday Unit: Shabbat (note that there are two separate ones: Shabbat 1 and Shabbat 2). Additionally, there are flashcards of the vocabulary words found in the Shabbat unit for students who are ready for visual cues, instead of just verbal ones; these will generally be used in later years of study with Hebrew Through Movement, not the first or second one.
Teachers, both novice and experienced, will find of interest the video of Shabbat being taught. As with all the videos offered on this site, it is offered neither as an exemplar, nor as the only way to teach the lesson. Rather, it is an example of a real teacher, teaching real students. At the end, one student talks about what she now understands about the candle blessing that she did not understand, previously. Newly added to this page are videos of the vocabulary introduced in Shabbat 1 and Shabbat 2, with pronunciation and translation. These videos were posted to help parents hear and better understand the language that their children are bringing home! Feel free to share the links with them. There is also a video with other helpful information for the teacher. Happy teaching! |
