Holiday Unit, Pesah
Below are links to the instructions, vocabulary lists and sample scripts for Hebrew Through Movement Holiday Unit: Pesah. Additionally, there are flashcards of the vocabulary words found in this holiday unit for students who are ready for visual cues, instead of just verbal ones; these will generally be used in later years of study with Hebrew Through Movement, not the first or second one.
Teachers, both novice and experienced, will find of interest the video of Pesah being taught (abridged and full versions are offered; both are the same lesson). The teacher introduces both חָמֵץ and מַצָה, as well as יושְׁבִין (sitting upright) and מְסֻבִּין (leaning). The lesson ends with the class reciting segments of the Four Questions in Hebrew that include their new vocabulary. There are, of course, other ways of teaching this lesson; the video is offered as but one example. [Note that this Pesah video offers a great look at the goals of HTM, especially in a part-time setting. Yes, it's fun to jump and run, but the Foundational Vocabulary really is there to help us learn core vocabulary for prayers and rituals ... as you'll see in this video of the Four Questions.] Also added to this page is a video of the vocabulary introduced in the Pesah unit, with pronunciation and translation. This video was posted to help parents hear and better understand the language that their children are bringing home! Feel free to share the link with them. There is also a video with other helpful information for the teacher. Happy teaching! |

2. These are great photos that help illustrate words from the Four Questions; we've identified each page at the top with intended use. Download and print this document in color. "Real" is always better, but sometimes photos do just as well!

3. This file has four pictures per page of words on the seder plate and those needed for the multiple Pesah scripts in the HTM curriculum guide.
